LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A police review board says a northern Indiana sheriff's deputy was justified when she fired at a man who allegedly overpowered her and stole her police cruiser.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Barry Richard tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1J3eRR3 ) the department's review board found that Deputy Jennifer Thompson had followed all policies and procedures and was justified in firing at Marcus Bramlett on May 15.

Police say Thompson was transporting Bramlett from a hospital to the county jail on May 15 when he attacked her. When Thompson stopped her patrol car and got out, Bramlett jumped into the car driver's seat and drove away.

Richard says Thompson fired one round at Bramlett, which struck her patrol car's driver's side window as he was driving away. Bramlett was captured the following day.
