ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): One area school district is struggling with a shortage of bus drivers.

Southwest Allen County Schools has been dealing with a shortage for a couple of years now, with the Journal Gazette reporting they have five open routes and more resignations coming this month.

Some buses have been running at full capacity, with three students to a seat, and with the district also experiencing enrollment growth, the problem could get worse.

Transportation Director Steve Lake says the district is stepping up recruitment efforts and are looking at restructuring driver pay and possibly offering a program that would pay drivers for any unused personal days.
