SE Indiana Artist Chosen To Design Bicentennial Medal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An artist from southeastern Indiana has been selected to design a commemorative medal for the state's 200 year anniversary.

The Bicentennial Commission announced Thursday it had selected Donna Weaver of Vevay from a pool of 50 applicants and more than 100 designs.

Weaver will work with a minting company to shape her initial submission, titled “Indiana Revealed,'' into a design that will appear on the commemorative medal.

Indiana will celebrate its 200th anniversary of statehood in 2016.

Before she retired in 2006, Weaver was a contract artist with the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, where she designed coins and medals.
