FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A semi-tractor trailer crashed into a commercial laundromat on Fort Wayne’s southwest side Monday afternoon, injuring at least six people and causing major damage to the building.
Fort Wayne Police Department says officers responded around 1 p.m. to the crash along West Jefferson Boulevard.
Investigators say the semi was traveling westbound when it crossed the center turn lane, continued through the eastbound lanes and left the roadway before entering the laundromat parking lot.
The truck struck three parked vehicles before crashing into the building. A pickup occupied by two women — including one who was pregnant — was pushed into the structure. Both women suffered minor injuries.
Police say several people were inside the laundromat at the time of the crash. Some were knocked to the ground or into equipment, and one man was briefly trapped under debris before bystanders pulled him out.
The semi driver was trapped inside the cab until crews from the Fort Wayne Fire Department freed him.
Medics transported multiple people to area hospitals. Authorities say all injuries appeared to be minor.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Indiana State Police is expected to assist with a commercial vehicle inspection.
