EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – State police say roads in southern Indiana are snow covered and hazardous and advise drivers to slow down.

Floyd County in southeastern Indiana, just north of Louisville, Kentucky, has issued a travel warning, meaning residents should refrain from all travel. Eight other counties in southern Indiana have issued travel watches. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says a watch means weather conditions are threatening and only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended.

Some schools in southern Indiana have canceled classes, including the University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Southwest Indiana.

The National Weather Service reports 2.7 inches of snow in Crawford, 2 inches of snow in Jefferson and Poseyville, 1.5 inches in Fort Branch and an inch in Evansville.
