State Sets Aside Money for Indiana Interstate Expansions

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Three sections of interstate highway in Indiana are due to be expanded with $200 million in state road funding being released by the governor.

The governor's office says that expansion projects are planned for sections of Interstate 65 between Greenwood and Franklin in the southern suburbs of Indianapolis and in Clark County near Louisville, Kentucky. The other project involves expanding a 5-mile section of I-69 north from Indiana 37 in Hamilton County north of Indianapolis.

The $200 million is included in the current state budget, and Gov. Mike Pence said Tuesday he will ask the State Budget Committee on Thursday to back the spending of that money.

Construction is expected to begin this year on expansions of I-65 near Lafayette and just south of Indianapolis.
