Surgeon Who Fled Detention Pleads Innocent to Escape Charge

PERU, Ind. (AP) _ An Indiana physician who was in custody in connection with a stalking case has pleaded not guilty to an escape charge.

Gregory Konrath entered the plea Thursday during an appearance via video in Miami County Superior Court.

The 49-year-old Konrath was arrested and charged last year with attempted murder after allegedly plotting to kill his ex-wife. He accepted a plea agreement on a charge of stalking and began in-home detention in April.

Police say he removed his tracking device and fled detention two weeks later. Two days after fleeing, Konrath was arrested during a traffic stop near Flagstaff, Arizona.

Konrath is being held without bond for the escape. He also faces possible revocation of his previously suspended eight-year sentence for stalking.
