Terre Haute Mayor to Seek 3rd Term in Office

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – The mayor of Terre Haute says he'll seek a third term in next year's city election.

Republican Duke Bennett's winning campaign in 2011 broke a streak that saw the 60,000-person city's four previous mayors lose re-election bids.

Bennett tells the Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/1734CNE ) he wants to finish some major city projects that he's started, including a new police headquarters and work on a $100 million plan to reduce sewage overflows into the Wabash River.

Bennett won his first term in 2007 by about 100 votes, but was easily re-elected. No other Republican or Democratic candidates have announced plans to seek the mayor's office.
