Texas Muslim community honors 3 men killed in Fort Wayne

DALLAS, Texas (WOWO):People over a thousand miles away are honoring the three young men murdered on East Lewis Street.

Tuesday night, there will be a vigil in Dallas, Texas, to honor 23-year-old Mohamed Taha Omar, 20-year-old Adam Mekki and 17-year-old Muhannad Tairab and to “stand for justice,” according to a Facebook post by Alpha Lambda Mu, UT Dallas.

The Facebook page for the event says that the mainstream media has had minimal coverage on the “horrific act” and the vigil is to “commemorate their lives and call for accountability and action into their senseless deaths.”

The event is being hosted by CAIR-TX, The Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Alpha Lambda Mu UT Dallas Chapter. Alpha Lambda Mu was the first national fraternity founded on Islamic principles.

The Fort Wayne Muslim community is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction in the killings.

Police believe it wasn’t a hate crime.
