ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): Trine University is getting ready to welcome two new athletic buildings to its campus as part of $16 million project.

Trine will break ground in June on a brand new, 50,600 square-foot and 1,000- seat ice arena, which will allow the university to add a men’s and women’s hockey teams in 2017.

“We are looking forward to the addition of ice hockey to our athletic department,”  Matt Land, assistant vice president of athletics at Trine said in a release. “Collegiate hockey will bring new and exciting form of competition to the Trine University athletic family.”

The ice arena, which is expected to cost $4.5 million, will be located on the southwest portion of campus near the softball and soccer fields.

The new ice arena will include an ice rink, locker rooms, concession, a pro shop, a VIP lounge and two press boxes.

It’s just one of two new athletic buildings that were announced Thursday by Trine president Earl Brooks II.

The other building is an event center. It will be 75,000 square-foot and will have about 3,000 seats. It will be home to men’s and women’s basketball games and events.

The center will also have a six-lane bowling alley, fitness center and the Trine University Athletic Hall of Fame.

The university estimates the buildings will bring eight to 10 new jobs to Trine.
