Our Partners in News at ABC 21 say the chase began around 12:30 a.m. near East Rudisill Boulevard and South Hanna Street after an officer noticed a car he believed had a stolen license plate on it.

When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver took off, taking police to Autumn Lane by Oxford Street before he fled. The passenger, a woman, went to the ground. Police eventually found the driver, Christopher Zerler, in the ground between some bushes in McMillen Park.

The passenger, Bandy Howard, told officers that Zerler pulled out a gun while they were driving and put it behind her seat.

Zerler is facing charges of felon carrying a handgun, possession of methamphetamine, using a vehicle to resist law enforcement, fleeing law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident.

Howard is facing a charged of possession of methamphetamine. She also had an active warrant out for her arrest.
