SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP):   A large mural that graces a bridge that's an entryway to downtown South Bend is in need of repairs following a wintertime brush with a snow plow and the bridge's aging limestone supports.

Artist Christopher Stackowicz, who designed the mural, says the painting was damaged over the winter when a snowplow scraped the artwork.

He tells the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/1o5CvTQ ) that aging limestone slabs which support the bridge have also begun oozing calcium, which has corroded the mural's paint in spots.

But a fix is coming. Stackowicz says a “massive team'' of volunteers is ready to get out and repair the damage when the weather warms up, probably in mid to late May.

The mural is located along Indiana 933 beneath a pedestrian bridge.
