Woman Falls Asleep at Wheel, Drives into Ohio Lake

CELINA, Ohio (AP): Authorities say a 76-year-old woman fell asleep behind the wheel in the middle of the day and drove into a western Ohio lake, where she became stranded on the roof of her car and was rescued with help from an Indiana teenager. The incident happened just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lima News reports the Rockford woman fell asleep before missing a curve in the road and crossing a concrete rubble barrier into Grand Lake St. Marys. The car drifted a bit and then sank a few yards offshore. The woman wasn't hurt and was able to exit the car.

A 15-year-old boy from nearby Portland, Indiana, witnessed the scene and swam out to give her a life jacket. The fire department eventually rescued her by boat.
