BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Bloomington police say a woman has recanted her story that was sexually assaulted at gunpoint near Indiana University's Bloomington campus.
Police said Friday that a man who was described as the assailant in the purported Nov. 17 attack contacted investigators and said he and the woman had a disagreement over money, a claim that was substantiated by text messages on his cellphone.
Police say a follow-up interview with the complainant elicited the admission her original story was inaccurate.
The original report of an assault at the Brownstone Apartments prompted the university to send an alert warning students on the north side of campus to stay inside and lock their doors.
