FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As the Wells Fargo fiasco continues, WOWO News is asking the question: What does that mean for you?
To sum up the story, federal regulators discovered that Wells Fargo employees were secretly creating millions of unauthorized accounts, without their customers even knowing it. The bogus accounts have led to thousands of customers paying fees on a ghost account they never signed up for.
WOWO News spoke to David Ackerman, CCO of Sound Income Strategies, and he says as a consumer you need to go the bank and ask for a list of all your accounts.
“You want to make sure that you have all the accounts opened up in your name,” Ackerman said. “Any credit cards that are opened in your name and I am a huge proponent of credit checks so go online and possibly purchase one of those 999 credit reports and see what you have out there.” He went on to say, “…the more you know, the more you can fix.”
Now for the kicker, it may not just be Wells Fargo. Ackerman says the types of sales tactics they use are very similar throughout the whole banking industry.
According to reports released Thursday, Wells Fargo employees have been secretly creating the phony accounts since 2011, leading to an increase in their sales.

Here’s an idea. Take your banking somewhere else. If people put up with this kind of behavior it will continue.
