2 Accused in Home Invasion Charged with Murder

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say two men accused of taking part in a South Bend home invasion in which an alleged accomplice was fatally shot in a gunfight with the homeowner have been charged with murder.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office say 28-year-old Mario McGrew of South Bend and 36-year-old Shawn Lamar Alexander are charged with felony murder, burglary and robbery in a home invasion 10:11 p.m. Wednesday near the University of Notre Dame.

McGrew is being held without bond, while Alexander remains at large. Court records did not show whether McGrew had hired an attorney.

The homeowner, 28-year-old Robert Carrico, also was shot. He was initially taken to Memorial Hospital, but a hospital spokesman says there was no listing for him. The deceased man was identified as 40-year-old Michael Jackson.
