HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ Northwestern Indiana authorities have arrested two men on charges alleging that they stole a van and 5,000 pounds of copper wire from a utility company.
Nineteen-year-old Kenneth K. Ray and 21-year-old Carlos A. Echevarria face charges of receiving stolen property. Court documents say the men and an unidentified juvenile stole the van from a NIPSCO substation in Hammond on Feb. 2.
The Times of Munster reports the pair allegedly backed the van up against a truck and moved 5,000 pounds of copper wire from the truck to the van. Court documents allege that the men were later seen at an auto yard trying to sell the copper wire.
