INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Three Indianapolis police officers are being credited with saving the life of a man whom they rescued from a burning home before firefighters arrived on the scene.

Police say Officers Gary Hadden, Brian Thorla and Grady Copeland responded when 911 dispatchers received frantic calls from neighbors just before 3 a.m. Thursday saying a home was fully engulfed in flames. They heard a faint cry for help and Hadden forced in a back door and found the man and began carrying him from the home.

Police say that when heat from the blaze and falling debris stymied Hadden's exit from the home, Thorla ran in to get the man while Copeland ran in to help Hadden out.

Hadden and the unidentified man were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
