2nd Hole on Indiana Bridge Prompts Closure

RISING SUN, Ind. (AP): Indiana officials have closed a state highway running along the Ohio River after a second hole opened up on a bridge over a creek.
 
State Department of Transportation crews closed Indiana 156 on Thursday after the damage was reported on the bridge over Grants Creek. That bridge is near the Ohio-Switzerland county line a few miles south of the town of Rising Sun.
 
Highway officials say crews installed steel plates on the bridge last winter to cover a large hole in the bridge deck.
 
That temporary repair allowed the bridge to reopen to traffic in the area about 25 miles southwest of Cincinnati. Bids were going to be sought this fall for a project to replace the bridge deck and substructure.
