Pedestrian In Life Threatening Condition After Being Struck By Police Officer Wednesday Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A pedestrian was hit and critically injured by a police vehicle Wednesday Night in Downtown Fort Wayne.  Shortly before 7:30 P.M., Fort Wayne Police were called to the intersection of S. Calhoun St. and E. Main St. in reference to an officer involved personal injury accident. As a Fort Wayne Police Officer was turning left onto East Main Street, the officer’s vehicle made contact with an adult pedestrian who was crossing.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is reported to be in life threatening condition. The name of the officer and pedestrian has not been released, as the investigation continues.

Who was at fault? That’s what seems to be missing from the story.
With all the cameras around town, i would think it easy to pin that bit of info down.

Regardless, i wish the “adult pedestrian” well. …even though they could have been in the wrong.
Pedestrians do not always have the right of way… i mean this isn’t N.Y.C., where they get away with that.

If the officer wasn’t paying attention, well, then that will receive some nasty attention. Emergency responders are NOT impervious to, NOR exempt from, obeying intersection rules. While they should have priority, they still have to wait their turn.
