Teen Escapes Burning Car After Crash

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – A Markle teen escaped her burning car after hitting a tree early this morning in Adams County.

Indiana State Police say Ashley Koehlinger, 18, was driving westbound on C.R. 1100 N, just east of C.R. 100 E around 6:35 a.m. when she left the roadway. Koehlinger over-corrected, drove through a ditch and struck a tree.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to shear in half and catch fire. Koehlinger was able to free herself from the engulfed car.

She was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries; then taken to the Adams County Jail and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and minor consumption.

Police say her blood-alcohol content was nearly three times the .08% limit.
