North Vernon Man Dies After Truck Enters Jennings County Lake

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a drowning that claimed the life of a 20-year-old North Vernon man Saturday night at Crosley Lake in Jennings County.

According to a preliminary investigation, Christopher Allman was attempting to back a pickup truck down a boat ramp at approximately 9 p.m. when the vehicle entered the water and traveled nearly 100 feet from shore.

Authorities said Allman and a passenger escaped from the truck and attempted to swim back to land. The passenger made it safely to shore, but Allman went underwater and did not resurface.

Indiana Conservation Officers recovered Allman’s body at approximately 1:12 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.
