ANGOLA, Ind. (AP): An Angola woman is being honored by the White House for her conservation efforts.

 

Carrie Vollmer-Sanders of Angola is among 14 people who will receive Champions of Change awards “for their efforts to engage communities and youth in environmental stewardship and conservation.”

 

The Journal Gazette reports the awards will be presented Tuesday at the White House.

 

Vollmer-Sanders and her husband, Ryan Sanders, grow corn, soybeans and wheat on their farm near the town of Hamilton. She is the director of the Western Lake Erie Basin Project for the Nature Conservancy. Her current efforts include keeping fertilizer runoff out of Lake Erie.

 

The White House says the Champions of Change program honors people for “doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.”
