Notre Dame Teams to Commemorate Hesburgh Legacy

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Notre Dame says Irish sports teams will commemorate the legacy of long-time university President Rev. Theodore Hesburgh with “Fr. Ted” patches or stickers on uniforms, warm-ups or helmets.

Hesburgh died Thursday night at age 97. He was Notre Dame's president for 35 years.

The university athletics department said Friday that moments of silence will be observed before home events in each of Notre Dame's 26 varsity sports.

It also says commemorative signage for each Notre Dame home athletic venue will be created in the near future.

The official Notre Dame athletics web site, www.und.com, will beginning Sunday feature a variety of content related to Hesburgh's connection with athletics, including video, print and still photo elements.
