Officer Shoots Man Outside NW Indiana Health Clinic

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A northwestern Indiana police officer has shot a man while was issuing a citation for an illegally parked semitrailer.

The Times of Munster reports the shooting occurred Monday afternoon outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Merrillville, about 5 miles south of Gary.

Both the officer and the man were taken to hospitals. Their conditions and the extent of their injuries were not known.

Dasia Magee, a woman who was in the Planned Parenthood clinic at the time, tells The Times she heard nurses say, “Call 911.” She said she looked out the window and saw an officer holding a man down at gunpoint.

A message seeking comment was left with a Planned Parenthood spokeswoman.
