Former Indiana Secretary of State Claims Legal Malpractice

INDIANAPOLIS (AP):  Former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White is claiming he was the victim of legal malpractice by his defense attorney leading up to the voter fraud conviction that forced him from office.

White has filed a lawsuit against former Marion County prosecutor Carl Brizzi, arguing that Brizzi wasn't adequately prepared and was ignorant of several areas of law leading up the White's February 2012 trial.

A Hamilton County jury convicted White after Brizzi did not call any witnesses and immediately rested the defense after the prosecution wrapped up its case. White was sentenced to one year of home detention and was automatically removed from office.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

A telephone message left at Brizzi's office by The Associated Press seeking comment wasn't immediately returned.
