Coroner: IU student died from head injury…

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana coroner says an Indiana University student who died after falling down a basement staircase during an off-campus party suffered a fatal head injury in that fall.

But Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer says an exact cause of death for 19-year-old Rachael Fiege has yet to be determined.

The Herald-Times reports Fiege was declared brain dead Friday afternoon by doctors at a Bloomington hospital, where she spent much of the day in critical condition and on life support.

The student from the suburban Indianapolis community of Zionsville died Saturday morning after being removed from life support.

IU's police chief says others at the party Fiege attended didn't call emergency responders until six hours after she fell because they didn't realize the severity of her injuries.
