Plan to Admit Chinese Students to School Withdrawn

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _ A company that provides transitional training for Chinese high school graduates wanting to study in the U.S. has withdrawn a proposal to place 30 students at Valparaiso High School.

The (Munster) Times reports Lumenus USA issued a statement Monday saying it believes the program has merit but more public dialogue is needed.

The Valparaiso School Board last month approved an agreement with Lumenus to place up to 30 Chinese students in the high school graduating class of 2015, but some critics questioned whether the foreign students would require school resources that already have been stretched thin.

The Chinese students would have paid full tuition and entered as seniors. They would have been eligible to participate in all school activities and compete for positions in everything except sports.
