Fights Prompt 2-Hour Lockdown at South Bend School

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A South Bend middle school has resumed its normal schedule following a two-hour lockdown prompted by several fights among students.

South Bend Community School Corp. spokeswoman Sue Coney says the principal of Clay Intermediate Center ordered the lockdown in which students were held in their first-period class Wednesday following the fights in the school gymnasium.

Coney says police have detained one student, and all those involved will face disciplinary action.

She says none of the students were injured.

The school educates students in grades 5-8.
