Gay Marriage Opponents say They ‘Warned’ of Ruling

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Opponents of gay marriage say same-sex unions are wrong regardless of what a federal judge says.

American Family Association of Indiana Executive Director Micah Clark says social conservatives have warned for years that gay-rights supporters would use the power of the courts to “force a new definition of marriage upon all of Indiana.''

U.S. District Judge Richard Young on Wednesday ruled Indiana's gay-marriage ban was unconstitutional. The state plans to appeal and will seek a stay of Young's ruling.

Efforts to place Indiana's existing ban on gay marriage in the state constitution failed during the legislative session earlier this year after Republican lawmakers stripped language that would have banned future approval of civil unions. The move reset the clock on the state's lengthy constitutional amendment process.
