Crews Restoring Power Following Overnight Storms

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Utility crews are making progress restoring power to more than 100,000 homes and businesses across northern and central Indiana that lost power during severe overnight storms.

By midmorning Tuesday, four of Indiana's largest utilities reported about 128,000 homes and businesses still without power, down from nearly 150,000 outages reported at daybreak.

The National Weather Service says high winds knocked down trees, tree limbs and power lines across parts of northern and central Indiana and there were widespread reports of property damage.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. reported about 78,000 of its customers without power as of 9:30 a.m., while Indiana Michigan Power had nearly 34,000 customers in the dark. Indianapolis Power & Light reported about 13,000 outages and Duke Energy had nearly 3,000 customers still without power.
