INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana Republicans are looking to maintain the electoral gains they achieved over the past 10 years as voters head to the polls.
Tuesday's top races involve treasurer, auditor and secretary of state. All three offices are currently held by Republicans. The GOP also aims to maintain powerful supermajorities in both the state House and Senate.
It took a little more than a decade for the party to build itself into a powerhouse after years of splitting top offices with the state's Democrats. Most of the building was done by former Gov. Mitch Daniels and an army of young staffers and veteran Republican fundraisers.
Democrats see some hope using education as an issue. Schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz has been a consistent presence on the campaign trail this past year.
