Mother of Slain Child Not Angry at Grandmother

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The mother of a 5-year-old Indianapolis boy fatally shot by his older brother says she isn't angry at the boys' grandmother who was watching them.

Police say Damoni Troutman was shot in the head by his brother at their grandmother's apartment on the city's north side. She was babysitting three children younger than 10 at the time of Sunday's shooting.

Brittney Rodriguez tells WTHR-TV that Damoni was a smart and curious kindergartner. Rodriguez says she didn't know about a gun being in her mother's home.

The Marion County prosecutor's office is reviewing the shooting.

Rodriguez says she wants people to stop being critical of her mother and Damoni's brother, because they are hurting just as much as she is hurting.
