JASPER, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana company that makes wooden office furniture is closing its doors after more than six decades, costing more than 80 workers their jobs.

Inwood Office Furniture Chairman Glen Sturm says the Jasper plant will cease operations Nov. 26. He blamed the move on a continuing drop in demand “for quality wood private office furniture.”

The Herald of Jasper reports, Inwood has 85 employees and was incorporated in 1948 as the Jasper Table Company in the city about 50 miles northeast of Evansville. Sturm said Friday in a news release that all employees and vendors will be paid in full.

Sturm says changes in the economy, work styles and technology have reduced demand for Inwood's furniture products and that demand had not rebounded despite the economic recovery.
