Police Talk Man off NW Indiana Highway Bridge

GARY, Ind. (AP) – A man threatening to jump from a bridge onto Interstate 80/94 prompted police to close the northwestern Indiana highway for nearly two hours.

Gary police Sgt. Thomas Decanter says the man came off the Broadway bridge over the highway Sunday night after talking with police negotiators for about an hour and 40 minutes.

Decanter tells The Times of Munster that the man was taken to a hospital for a 72-hour evaluation. No injuries were reported.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80/94 were closed while police worked to get the man off the bridge, with traffic being diverted off the highway.
