Toy Gun Sparks Investigation at Indy-area School

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The superintendent of Beech Grove City Schools says what was thought to be a gun brought onto a school bus turned out to be a toy.

The school district would not comment beyond a statement sent to every parent in the Beech Grove district. The message from Superintendent Paul Kaiser says a person – they were referred to as a community member – called the school district office this morning because they saw a student carrying what appeared to be a gun.

Kaiser says when the student got off the bus at Beech Grove Middle School, a police officer who happened to be at the school took the weapon, which turned out to be fake but, in Kaiser‘s words, “realistic-looking.”

“We are very thankful that the situation turned out to be something that was able to be handled as quickly as possible and without incident where all of our students and staff are safe,” the statement read. The school district did not say whether the student will face any discipline.
