WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Purdue University's airport is getting an $11.25 million renovation that will be largely paid for by the Federal Aviation Administration.

WLFI-TV (http://bit.ly/1LotgqB ) reports the Purdue Board of Trustees approved the project last week to renovate the West Lafayette airport's longest runway. The FAA will pay 90 percent of the costs, while the Indiana Department of Transportation and the airport will split the rest.

The runway got its latest renovation 18 years ago. Officials say it needs work now to stay compliant with FAA rules.

Work is expected to begin in late July and take roughly 45 days. Construction director Robert Smith says the airport will be closed when the runway intersections are being redone.
