8 Rescued After Indianapolis Zoo Skyline Ride Malfunctions

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Eight people including at least three children have been rescued after the Indianapolis Zoo's Skyline ride left them stranded for about two hours in a cart 30 feet in the air.

No injuries were reported. It is the second time in two months that the ride has stranded passengers.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews were responded Thursday afternoon to use a bucket lift to help zoo staff rescue the passengers.

Zoo spokeswoman Carla Knapp said a mechanical issue caused the incident. She said the ride would be restarted and remain open. She says the zoo has “processes in place'' to make sure riders are safe.

The ride stopped before in June, also stranding passengers. And in October 2014 it stopped above the orangutan exhibit leaving 18 riders to be rescued.
