Ohio Parole Board Urges No Clemency for Jailed GOP Donor

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ Ohio's parole board is urging Gov. John Kasich to turn down a clemency request from a former coin dealer who raised money for Ohio Republicans before being convicted in a state investment scandal.

Tom Noe is serving an 18-year prison term and isn't due to be released for another 11 years.

It has been seven years since he was convicted of stealing from a $50 million rare-coin fund he oversaw for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.

The Blade newspaper in Toledo reports that the parole board said that Noe's sentence isn't out of line given the corrupt activity conviction against him.

The scandal helped Democrats win four of five statewide elective offices in 2006.
