Emergency medical in southwest Indiana county impacted by fire

SULLIVAN, Ind. (AP): A sheriff says emergency medical care in a southwestern Indiana county could be stretched thin by a fire that heavily damaged three ambulances and the garage that housed them.

Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says it will take many months to recover from the Thursday morning fire at the County Ambulance Services in Sullivan. He says station was the main hub for ambulance service in the county about 80 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Sullivan County also has two ambulances stationed in Carlisle that will continue to provide service.

Cottom says an emergency medical technician arriving for a shift change noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the garage and alerted two employees inside. There were no injuries.

Cottom says the fire appears to have started in the ambulance bay area.
