Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb will replace Gov. Mike Pence on ballot

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The Indiana Republican Party decided Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb will replace Gov. Mike Pence on the ballot in November.

Holcomb became the state’s  lieutenant governor in March, when Pence picked him as his running mate. At that time, Sue Ellspermann, resigned from the office.

RTV6 reported it was a “toss-up” between Susan Brooks and Holcomb. The committee meeting took more than two hours to decide.

Holcomb will face Democrat John Gregg in November. Gregg released the statement below after Holcomb was announced as the GOP nominee.

“I want to congratulate Eric Holcomb on this latest political appointment. While there may be a new name on the ballot, the issues remain the same. For too many Hoosier families, wages aren’t keeping up and the good paying jobs we are losing aren’t being replaced. Eric Holcomb wholeheartedly embraced the failed approach that embarrassed our state, cost us jobs and has left the middle class behind. My economic plan sets our state on a new path forward, one that puts jobs and the middle class first.”
