Fort Wayne Police Department offers tips for a safe holiday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): With Christmas a little bit more than a month away, holiday shopping is almost in full swing.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, The Fort Wayne Police Department posted on Facebook tips on how to prevent holiday theft.

The department said to lock any purchases out of sight or in the trunk of your vehicle. It’s also a good idea to keep purses out of sight.

“If you are shopping at night, try and park in a well lit area of the parking lot,” the department said on Facebook. “If you are expecting deliveries to your home from UPS, FedEx or any other delivery service, while you are away, try to work out something so that the package(s) are not left in the open.”

The Fort Wayne Police Department said thieves will follow delivery drivers and take packages  from door steps after the driver has left the area.
