ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): An Air Quality Alert is in effect for Sunday, June 11 and Monday, June 12, due to possible elevated ozone levels.

Allen, Elkhart, LaPorte, St. Joseph and Huntington counties are under the alert, according to the National Weather Service.

Ozone Levels are expected to be at unhealthy levels for sensitive groups. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation, like refueling vehicles, using gasoline powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid.

It is recommended that active children and adults and persons with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

To reduce ozone levels, you’re encouraged to participate in carpooling, bike to work, delay or combine errands and use water based paints.

Temperatures will hover around 90 degrees, both Sunday and Monday. Slightly cooler conditions are anticipated for the end of the week.
