City to pursue downtown parking study

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The City of Fort Wayne will be spending almost $99,000 on a study over the downtown area’s parking needs.

It’s a common complaint: there’s nowhere to park downtown. And while City officials have said in the past that’s not true, pointing out a number of garages and lots throughout that area, the recent addition of 400 SIRVA employees to downtown traffic appears to have changed that.

The News-Sentinel reports that the city will be spending $98,775 on a study to find solutions to the shortage, but the Civic Center parking garage is already moving ahead by adding two floors to its offering.

The Council also approved Tuesday night a 25-year lease for a 1,000 space parking garage that will be part of mixed-use apartment and retail project being built along the riverfront.
