“Safest Indiana Cities” study ranks Fort Wayne 25th

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The National Council for Home Safety and Security has released a list of the Safest Cities in Indiana, and Fort Wayne was nowhere close to even the “top 10.”

The study, which you can read here, looks at crime statistics, including the property and violent crime rates. Fort Wayne came in 25th with 3.6 violent crimes and almost 32 property crimes for every 1,000 residents.

Indiana is listed as the 26th safest state for property crime with a violent crime rate slightly above the national average.

New Haven came in as 13th safest city. Dyer was ranked #1, followed by Carmel, St. John, Crown Point, and Jasper.

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry will host a public safety news conference at Citizens Square this morning, alongside Police Chief Steve Reed and Fire Chief Eric Lahey. WOWO will attend and have a full update for you afterward.
