FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – A historic 1940 New York Central steam locomotive, “The Mohawk,” is moving from Elkhart to Fort Wayne for a $4.3 million restoration.

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society hopes to make it the world’s only operating New York Central steam train.

The public can attend a farewell event at the Elkhart museum September 4 and 5 before restoration begins.
