INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Proposed legislation to tighten requirements for Indiana abortion clinics has rare support between some Senate Republicans and Democrats.

A Senate committee on Wednesday voted 8-2 in favor of the bill. It would require an abortion provider to have an agreement with physician who has admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

The bill also would require physicians to give patients contact information for the hospital before the abortion.

Despite a flurry of amendments that satisfied some opponents of the bill, some still worry the provisions are unnecessary.

Almost all abortions in Indiana in 2012 were performed within the first trimester, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Planned Parenthood of Indiana representatives say less than 0.1 percent of abortions lead to hospitalization.
