FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Allen County residents will soon have a free and environmentally friendly way to get rid of their real Christmas trees. The Allen County Department of Environmental Management is bringing back its annual Christmas tree recycling program, which begins Friday and runs through January 16.

Several drop-off locations will be available across the county, including sites in Fort Wayne, New Haven, Metea County Park, near Fort Wayne International Airport, and in Monroeville. Trees dropped off through the program will be recycled instead of sent to landfills. WPTA 21 Alive reports residents must remove all ornaments, tinsel, and plastic bags before dropping off trees. Artificial trees, wreaths, and garlands will not be accepted, and trees will not be picked up with regular trash collection.

For a full list of drop-off locations and hours, residents can check Allen County environmental resources online.
