Police Arrest Man Accused of Stealing $6,200 in Ice Cream

GRIFFITH, IND. (WOWO) Police in Northwest Indiana have arrested a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of ice cream from delivery trucks.

According to the Griffith Police Department, officers arrested Christopher Stewart after an investigation into repeated thefts over several weeks. Police say Stewart stole a total of 258 cases of ice cream, valued at approximately $6,200.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video and vehicle records while working the case. Police say Stewart was eventually identified, located, and admitted to stealing the ice cream and selling it.

Stewart was booked into the Lake County Jail and now faces multiple charges, including two counts of Level 6 felony theft and a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene of a vehicle crash.

Under Indiana law, a Level 6 felony carries a potential sentence of up to two-and-a-half years in prison and a fine of up to ten-thousand dollars. The case remains under investigation.
