BERNE, IND. (WOWO) A 21-year-old man is hospitalized with serious injuries following a single-vehicle Amish buggy crash in Adams County late Saturday night, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.


Crash reported late Saturday night

The crash occurred on June 7, 2028, at approximately 11:15 p.m. in the area of 400 South and 200 East, where deputies responded to a report of a personal injury crash involving an Amish buggy.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary findings indicate the buggy was occupied by a single male driver who was observed slumped over in the seat prior to the crash.


Sequence of events under investigation

Investigators say the buggy left the roadway and struck a fence post, causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.

Authorities said it is currently unknown why the driver was slumped over before the crash occurred.

After the impact, the horse and buggy continued eastbound along 400 South before being safely contained by area residents.


Injuries and medical response

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Paul Eicher of rural Berne, sustained serious head injuries in the crash.

Emergency responders provided medical care at the scene before transporting Eicher to a Fort Wayne-area hospital for further treatment, according to officials.
